Length: 8 inches Wingspan: 4 inches

From October 6, 1973 until October 25, 1973 a state of war existed between the? coalition of Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Algeria, Saudi Arabia against Israel. This war is known by several names, Yom Kippur War, Ramadan War, October War or 1973 Arab-Israeli War. During this period Israel flew Mirage III CJs or Neshers while the Egyptian Air Force flew Soviet built MiG-21s of various types including the MiG-21PFS. The original surprise attack by Egypt was made up of over 220 aircraft that went undetected because they flew below radar level.

During the Yom Kippur War, Israel claimed 73 kills against Egyptian MiG-21s (65 confirmed). Egypt claimed 27 confirmed kills against Israeli aircraft by its MiG-21s, plus eight probables. However, according to most Israeli sources, these were exaggerated claims as Israeli air-to-air combat losses for the entire war did not exceed five to fifteen.

The Mig-21 was originally built by the Mikoyan and Gurevich Design Bureau in the Soviet Union with a NATO nickname Fishbed. No other jet has had as many planes? produced as the Mig-21. Depending on the reference source 8,000 - 13,000 planes of all versions were made in the Soviet Union, under license to allied countries and China without license. A small, fast, agile, dependable and most importantly simple making it easy to turn out great numbers of the plane.

The MiG-21FL is a downgraded variant of the MiG-21PF and meant for the Third World market. It is has the lesser powerful R11F-300 engine. This variant also lacks the ability to carry RS-2US beam-riding missiles and has the basic version of the RP-21 radar. The FL has a wide chord fin as well as a brake chute fairing.
